How to choose a good games app for your child
A checklist before you install: ads, purchases, data about your child, adapting difficulty, working offline and how long a game lasts.
Check this before installing
There are lots of children’s apps, and the differences often show only after a few days of play. These seven questions help you decide in advance.
- Are there ads? An app for young children should not have any.
- Are purchases offered to the child? Purchases should be hidden behind a parental gate.
- Does it ask for an account, an email or information about your child? Playing does not need that.
- Does it use the microphone or camera, and why?
- Does the difficulty adapt to the child, or is it the same for everyone?
- Does the game have a clear end, or does it keep pulling the child on?
- Does it work offline, for example in the car?
Signs an app is not made for young children
- Rewards for coming back every day and daily streaks.
- Countdowns and pressure to hurry.
- Leaderboards and comparing with other children.
- Links that lead to other apps or websites.
How Huhu does it
Huhu has no ads, no accounts and no data collection, and settings and progress stay on the device. Purchases are behind the parental gate, games work offline and the difficulty of every game follows how your child is doing. It is all on the Peace of mind page.
